Please join me in empowering individuals with physical disabilities around the world through sports. The mission of the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) is intricately tied to the challenges of our time - a global health pandemic, a devastating financial crisis, and ongoing social injustices. These challenges create even greater barriers for individuals with physical disabilities. To change this reality, it will take all of us.
My Reason Why
9 years ago, I travelled to the USA to coach soccer across Southern California. This is where I met the Moore Family (Todd, Theresa, Bryson, Kyler, Brielle and Kalissa), who opened up their home and allowed me to stay with them whilst working in the area. They became family to me and I am forever grateful for their love and support whilst I’ve been over here.
Kyler (11 at the time) was a budding and promising young soccer player. Unfortunately, after noticing pain and swelling in his favored foot, he was diagnosed with a condition called Arterial venous malformation. This led to many hospital visits and trips to specialists out of state to try and fix the issue to save his foot. After a couple of years and lots of deep discussions with family and doctors, Kyler made the decision to have the foot amputated.
Since the first challenged athlete grant, Kyler has been able to participate through high school sports playing varsity volleyball at Valhalla High school and even has had the opportunity to be part of the USA Paralympic volleyball team.
Your donation to my fundraising goal will help provide challenged athletes like Kyler in financial need with adaptive sports equipment, coaching, and training expenses. Additionally, your gift will support virtual and at-home resources that help challenged athletes of all ages and abilities stay active and motivated, at a time when sports and physical activity are needed more than ever.
Our efforts will help ensure that the most vulnerable population won’t be left behind. We’ll be creating opportunities for challenged athletes to be involved with adaptive sports, fitness, community connections, and inclusion in society’s health and wellness activities.
As a CAF supporter, I believe in the power of sport to empower lives, heal individuals and unite the world, especially in these times of crisis and conflict.
