Pay it Forward for CAF with Jonah, Rosalind & Lamar
WHO, WHAT, WHERE & WHEN: On Oct. 23, our friend, 18-year-old double-amputee Jonah Vandever will be tackling the wheelie 'run' course as a member of our "Team Pay It Forward" when my husband Lamar and I swim and bike for the 8th consecutive year to benefit the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) at the 2016 San Diego Triathlon Challenge (SDTC) in La Jolla.
WHY WE SUPPORT CAF: CAF helps people like Jonah get the training, equipment and inspiration they need to live life to the fullest. Over the past 23 years CAF has has raised over $67 million dollars and fulfilled more than 11,000 funding requests worldwide, for people with physical challenges. We invite you to donate to CAF through "Team Pay It Forward with Jonah." Just hit the "Donate Now" button to the right.
YOU TOO CAN EXPERIENCE "THE BEST DAY IN TRIATHLON": Do you wonder why Lamar and I come back to La Jolla year after year to participate in the SDTC! Why not consider spending Sunday. Oct. 23, 2016 with us experiencing the "Best Day In Triathlon" by joining "Team Pay It Forward with Jonah!" You can swim, bike and/or run as an individual or as part of a relay -- or raise funds as a spectator team member. Or you can enter the Tour-de-Cove spinathon or the 5K Fitness Walk. And you can kick off the weekend at the SDTC "Celebration of Abilities" a night of camaraderie, tears and cheers and the finest challenged athletes and volunteers of the year are honored. Contact me for more information about joining our team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
WHY DONATE? If each one of our friends and family donates to our campaign for CAF, we'd be well on the way to putting flexible prosthetic legs on a wounded warrior or a protective services officer injured in the line of duty or a little kid or a teen or college student or a mom or a dad or a single, a senior or a stroke or cancer survivor so they could run around like you and me. Of course any amount large or small is going to help this great cause.
HELP SPREAD THE WORD: You can also help by spreading the word about our campaign to your family and friends! We need your support! If you asked your family and friends to support CAF and they asked their friends to do the same....that's a lot of legs and handcyles and cycling arm extensions and basketball/ski/hockey chairs and training clinics ..
MORE ABOUT JONAH: We had a fabulous time last year campaigning with Jonah and his mom Steffi Vandever. They are such an inspriation!! Jonah was born with without a forehead, missing some fingers, missing some toes, with clubbed feet and his knees on backwards...but with an agile mind and an indominable spirit.
His mom Steffi believed only in Jonah's potential. Surgeries helped redevelop his forehead and at 18 months both his legs were amputated. With the help of prosthetic legs, he soon started walking, then running and he's been running ever since. He added skiing to his athletic repetoire and is believed to be the first double amputee to ski standing up! He's won gold medals skiing and pays it forward by visiting wounded soldiers in hospitals and teaching them on the slopes. CAF has helped Jonah with equipment, training and encouragement.
WE INVITE YOU TO JOIN OUR TEAM PAY IT FORWARD CHALLENGE CAMPAIGN TODAY: Over the years Jonah, Lamar and Rosalind have participated in the San Diego Triathlon Challenge (SDTC) to inspire others and to help CAF give those with the desire to live active, competitive lifestyles every opportunity to compete in the sports they love. Join us!!
Thank you for your support!!
